Biographical Sketch (1923):34, p. 37. "August W. and Mary (Bitler) Klipfel, both of whom were born in this county, were members of old families here, and the latter is still living. The late August W. Klipfel was for thirty years engaged in the transfer business at Wapakoneta and then became engaged in the grocery business there, which business he carried on until his death in 1919. To him and his wife were born two sons, Mayor Klipfel having a brother, Arthur A. Klipfel, cashier of the Auglaize National Bank at Wapakoneta."

Biographical Sketch (1923):34, p. 93. "The late Augustus Klipfel was born on a farm in Duchouquet township, a son of William Klipfel, one of the pioneers of that part of the county, and was there reared. He later became engaged in business in Wapakoneta, where after his marriage in 1873 he established his home. For a period of forty years he was proprietor of a grocery store in Wapakoneta and also for years carried on a transfer line, his death occurring in that city in 1921. To him and his wife were born two sons, both of whom survive."

1919 Obituary: Augustus William Klipfel, a lifelong resident of this city, and one of the best known citizens of Wapakoneta, died in the Klipfel home, 202 East Mechanic street, April 14, 1919. He was born in Wapakoneta, a son of Augustus and Frances Miller Klipfel, in the parental home which was located on the bank of the Auglaize river, where the First National Bank is now located, on April 1, 1850. He was married to Delia Bitler. He is survived by two sons, A. A. Klipfel and Fred Klipfel, and two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Werst, of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Mrs. Barbara Graff, of Anna, a half sister, Mrs. Henry Kuntz, South Blackhoof street, another half sister, Mrs. Carrie Martin, Kansas City, Mo. Death came at 10:50 a.m. Monday [April 14, 1919] to Augustus William Klipfel, a life-long resident of this city and one of the best known citizens of Wapakoneta, age 69. Deceased was born in Wapakoneta in the parental home which was located on the bank of the Auglaize River, in 1850, where the First National Bank Building is now located. He is survived by his widow, Delia Bitler Klipfel, and sons A. A. Klipfel, cashier of the Auglaize National Bank and Fred A. Klipfel, mayor of the city and secretary of the Citizens Building and Loan Co. Mr. Klipfel for twenty-six years conducted the City Transfer Line, now owned by Joseph Platvoot, and during all that time hauled all express coming into and going out of the city. For sixteen years, he conducted a grocery in the room now occupied by the Vaudette Theatre, 9 W. Auglaize, which he sold in 1912, and after taking a two-year rest, became a clerk at the William Rinehart Grocery, 17 E. Auglaize, a position he held until his final illness.

Death came at 10:50 a.m. Monday April 14, 1919 to Augustus William Klipfel, a life-long resident of this city and one of the best known citizens of Wapakoneta at the Klipfel family home, 202 East Mechanic Street, the culmination of an illness of one week, which began with a chill and eventuated quickly into pneumonia which, augmented by a chronic case of leaky heart valve, culminated in his death at the time mentioned. Deceased was born in Wapakoneta, a son of Augustus and Frances Miller Klipfel, in the parental home which was located on the bank of the Auglaize River, where the First National Bank Building now is located. He was born April 1, 1850 and died at the age of 69 years and twelve days. Forty-five years ago he was united in marriage to Delia Bitler. Mr. Klipfel is survived by his widow and two sons, A. A. Klipfel, cashier of the Auglaize National Bank, and Fred A. Klipfel, mayor of the city and secretary of the Citizens Building and Loan Co. He is also survived by five grandchildren, the children of A. A. and Fred Klipfel. Mr. Klipfel for twenty-six years conducted the city transfer line, now owned by Joseph Platvoot and during all that time hauled all express coming into and going out of the city. For sixteen years he conducted a grocery in the room now occupied by the Vaudetta Theatre, which he sold in 1912; and after taking a two year rest, became a clerk at the William Rinehart grocery, a position he held until his final illness. He was a member of the M. E. Church, but was not affiliated with any lodges or other organizations. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Werst, of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Mrs. Barbara Graff, of Anna; a half-sister, Mrs. Henry Kuntz, South Blackhoof Street, this city, and another half-sister, Mrs. Carrie Martin, of Kansas City, Mo. Always of a quiet and retiring disposition, Mr. Klipfel was rated as a splendid citizen His life record is as an open book. He will be greatly missed in the home and by those who knew him. The sympathy of the public goes out in a large measure to his bereaved widow and his fine sons.
