Biographical Sketch (1917):31, p. 145. "Arthur Augustus Klipfel. Recognized as a leader in the business circles of Wapakoneta and Auglaize county, the subject of this sketch had his first employment in the grocery of his father from 1894 to 1901, during which period he also served as secretary of the Citizens Building & Loan Company. In 1901, he was elected cashier of the Peoples National Bank, and served in that capacity until 1911, when he became cashier of the newly organized Auglaize National Bank, with which institution he has since been associated. His treatment of the public is uniformly business-like and courteous, and has won for him legions of friends. Mr. Klipfel is interested in many of the city’s business institutions, and is treasurer of the National Artificial Refrigeration Company.
He was born in Wapakoneta, August 27, 1874, a son of Augustus and Mary (Bitler) Klipfel, both of the parents having been born in Auglaize County. He was educated in the public school in Wapakoneta, and at Eastman College, Poughkeepsie, New York. His marriage to Elsie Haman was solemnized February 22, 1906. Mr. Klipfel is a member of the I.O.O.F., and the K.O.T.M., and is affiliated with the Methodist Church."
Biographical Sketch (1923):34, v. 2, p. 93-94. "Arthur A. Klipfel, cashier of the Auglaize National Bank of Wapakoneta, formerly and for years secretary and manager of the Citizens Building and Loan Company and also former cashier of the Peoples National Bank of that city, for years recognized as one of the leading factors in the commercial life of the town, was born at Wapakoneta and has been a resident of that city all his life. Mr. Klipfel was born on August 27, 1875, and is a son of Augustus W. and Mary (Bitler) Klipfel, both of whom also were born in this county. Arthur A. Klipfel grew up in Wapakoneta and from the days of his boyhood was attracted to business forms, his early familiarity with this line of business being gained through close personal contact with the affairs of his father’s store. Following his graduation from the Wapakoneta high school he took a course in the Eastman Business College at Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and then entered his father’s store as a practical assistant, taking charge of the books and general business direction. Not long afterward he also was made secretary and office manager of the citizens Building and Loan Company, which was then getting a start here and the business of which was long carried on in the office of the Klipfel grocery. In 1901 Mr. Klipfel was elected cashier of the Peoples National Bank of Wapakoneta and he transferred his connection from the store to the bank, remaining with the latter institution until the time of the organization of the Auglaize National Bank of Wapakoneta in 1911, where he was elected cashier of that bank and in that capacity has since been serving, one of the best known bankers in this part of the state. As was written of Mr. Klipfel in a local review prepared some years ago, ‘his treatment of the public is uniformly businesslike and courteous and has won for him legions of friends,’ an estimate to which these friends gladly give emphasis. On February 2, 1906, Arthur A. Klipfel was united in marriage to Else Haman, who also was born in Wapakoneta, daughter of F. H. and Virginia (Swink) Haman, and to this union two children have been born, Virginia and Arthur Jr. The late F. H. Haman, father of Mrs. Klipfel, was for years one of the influential factors in the business life of Wapakoneta. He was the organizer and first president of the Auglaize National Bank and had served in that capacity until his death in 1915, being succeeded to the presidency by the present president of the bank, William J. McMurray, who at the time of his election in 1915 was the editor of The Auglaize Republican. Mr. and Mrs. Klipfel have a very pleasant home at Wapakoneta and have ever taken an interested and helpful part in the general social activities of the community. They are members of the Methodist Episcopal church and are Democrats. Mr. Klipfel is a member of the local lodge of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and of the local tent of the Knights of the Maccabees at Wapakoneta."
