Brunn Family Sketch

Hausen near Schonungen, Bavaria - John Brunn was born in Bavaria on 19 June 1798 to Georg and Margaretha Brunn of the Hassfurt area. On 17 November 1835 he married Catherine Klipfel, daughter of Joseph Klipfel, and Margaret Schlembach, in the village of Hausen near Schonungen. The previous year, in 1834, Catherine's parents and three siblings emigrated to establish a new home in Auglaize County, Ohio, sailing on the ship Averick Heineken from Bremen to the port of Baltimore.

Auglaize County, Ohio - A notation in the Würzburg Diocesan Archives from the Parish of Hausen near Schonungen indicates the Brunn family "moved on May 18, 1844, with children to America." In addition to John Brunn and Catherine Klipfel, the immigrant family included daughter Barbara Brunn, born about 1838 in Bavaria. In 1846 triplets were born to John and Catherine in Auglaize County: Francis Brunn survived to adulthood, siblings August and Elizabeth died shortly after birth. After the triplets, two other children were born to John and Catherine, sons Andrew Anthony Brunn and John Brunn.

Catherine Klipfel's sister Margaret Klipfel married Joseph Wehner in 1835 Auglaize (then Allen) County. Brother Augustin Klipfel married Franziska Miller while brother Francis Klipfel married Elizabeth Miller. These families maintained a close family relationship throughout their lives.

Shelby County, Ohio - Three children of John Brunn and Catherine Klipfel raised their families in Shelby County.
