1921 Obituary:2841 Grandma McMullen Buried Tuesday. The funeral of Mrs. Sarah McMuller was held at the Big Creek Presbyterian church Tuesday afternoon with services in charge of Rev. C. W. Odom of the Burlington M. E. church. A large crowd attended the service. Burial was in the cemetery adjoining the church.
Sarah Ann Sillin was born in Licking county, Ohio, March 9, 1836, and departed from this life January 23, 1921, aged 84 years, 10 months, and 14 days. In 1838 she moved with her parents to Oglaze [sic] county, Ohio, where she grew to womanhood. At the age of 16 she united with the Lutheran church and afgter coming to Kansas was united with the United Bretheran church, where she retained her membership until her death. In the later years of her life, owing to poor health, she was unable to attend services as often as she would have liked to, but often spoke of the faith in which she trusted, by saying she was reaqdy to answer the summons.
In 1864 she was united in marriage to Samuel McMullen to which union there were six children born. In 1870 she moved to Kansas with her husband and two children and homesteaded the farm on which she made her home until the time of her death. Her husband and two daughters preceded her in the departure from this life, the husband dying in 1882, one daughter dying in infancy and one daughter, Mrs. Maggie Wood, died the second of this month.
She leaves to mourn her loss four children: Mrs. May Christy, Mrs. Minnie Wiley, William McMullen, and John McMullen all of whom were with her during her last sickness and death. She also leaves sixteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, one brother, Bruce Sillin, of Walpakonita [sic], Ohio, two sisters Mrs. Elizabeth Moyer, and Mrs. Malinda Boyd and a host of other relatives and friends.
