Birthplace assumed to be Augusta County, Virginia due to his parent's residence in that location.

1830 U.S. Census:2866 John P. Sillin enumerated in the household of his parents John and Sarah Sillin in Northern District, Augusta County, Virginia, as a male between the age of 30 - 40. Three household residents enumerated were John Sr., as a male age 60-70, John was age 64; Sarah, as a female age 50-60, Sarah was age 52; and their son John P.

1831 Marriage:2864,1485,2866 Marriage date of 1831 estimated based on: 1) the 1830 census enumeration listing John as living with his parents in Augusta County, Virginia and Hannah as living with her father Adam Patterson in Licking County Virginia; and 2) the birth of their oldest child, Servetus, in May 1832, as documented by the 1900 census enumeration.

1852 Letter:1192 John P. Sillin wrote a letter 21 March 1852 describing the death of William Morey (1814-1852) and asking for financial help from family members. (See William P. Morey.) Letter refers to "Hannah’s girls" and describes "Mandy is taller than her mother and Sara Ann ain’t much behind and Sirvatus is 2 1/2 inches taller than I am. We have one girl about 9 months old and call it Levina Loiza and it is a bright youth." Allene Locklar1368 states that her "g grandfather was Sirvetus Sillin. I think his father’s name was John P. Sillin, son of John Silling. And I am not real sure what his mother’s name was. I think it was Sarah Patterson, daughter of John Patterson."
