Notes for Jacob SCHNEBELE
Note: This genealogy of the Schnebele family follows that given by Davis
736, v. 1, p. 345-349. in Emigrants, Refugees, and Prisoners, vol. 1, as Schnebeli Family "A." Elizabeth Washburn168, p. 24. in Snively-Snavely details Davis' Schnebeli Family "C," as do the Auguste Baldensperger notes described in the George Long book, John Long of Lancaster County683, p. 170. and the William Andrew Snively book Genealogical Memoranda.226, p. 9-12. The Schnebeli Family "C" immigrant was Johan Jacob Schnebele, who was born 1659 in Affoltern, Canton Zürich and died 1743 in Mannheim Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.168, p. 24. The George Long683, p. 4. book traces Johan's daughter Anna, who married Johannes Lang (John Long), another immigrant to Mannheim Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, while Washburn’s traces the descendants of Anna's siblings. Although both families may be related and appear to have originated in Affoltern, Canton Zürich, Switzerland, the Schnebeli Family "C" lived for a time in Baldenheim and Boisenbiesen, Alsace, while the Schnebeli Family "A" lived for a time in Ibersheimerhof. Some sources examined blur the distinctions between these families. Biographical Sketch (1995):736, v. 1, p. 345. "Jacob Schnebeli, b. c 1618, Affoltern. He is listed in the census with his wife in 1689 at Affoltern. In the 1633 census, age 15 as Jacob. He married on 16 Nov 1641, Elsbeth Schnebeli (bap. 6 Feb. 1620), daughter of Jacob Schnebeli. They were both mentioned as Anabaptists. From 1646 to 1654 there are no baptisms for his children, which may mean he was out of the country during those years."
