1843 Land Purchase:2553 On 4 October 1843 William M. McCoy of Porter County purchased 40 acres for $1.25 per acre in a cash entry sale. He was issued certificate no. 15048 by the registrar of the Land office at Winamac, Indiana for the sum of $50. The land is located in present day Porter County. William signed the documents with his mark.
1848 Land Patent:2336 On 1 May 1848, the U.S. General Land Office issued Certificate no. 15048 to William M. McCoy of Porter County, Indiana, for 40 acres, Range 7W of the 2nd Principal Meridian, Township 34N, Section 10, sold at the Winamac Land Office on 4 October 1843.
Death Prior to 1850:821 William McCoy assumed to have died by 14 September 1850, when Margaret McCoy was enumerated as head of household in 1850 U.S census. His death is presumed to have occurred in Porter County, Indiana, based on his location there in 1840 and his family's Porter County location in 1850.
