Notes for Margaret "Peggy" JARRETT

1778 Birth:484, Frame Cemetery. Birth date in January 1778 calculated from age at death (70 years, 2 days) on tombstone in Frame Cemetery, Porter Township, Porter County, Indiana. Research indicates Virginia as the place of birth because all four of Margaret's surviving children (Elizabeth, living in Porter County, Indiana; Jeremiah, living in Henry County, Iowa; Margaret, living in Colusa County, California; and Rosie, living in Butler County, Ohio) each listed Virginia as their mother's place of birth in the 1880 census enumeration.

1803 Marriage:829,51 On 29 March 1803, William Frame and Peggy Jarrett were married in Bourbon County, Kentucky, in a ceremony solemnized by W. Forman.

1810 U.S. Census:1048 Margaret enumerated in the household of her husband William Frame in Bourbon County, Kentucky as a female age 25 to 45; Peggy was about age 32.

1820 U.S. Census:2287 Margaret enumerated in the household of her husband William Frame in Bourbon County, Kentucky as a female age 26 to 45; Peggy was about age 42.

1830 U.S. Census:1223 Margaret enumerated in the household of her husband William Frame in Dixon Township, Preble County, Ohio as a female, age 40 to 50; Peggy was about age 52.

1840 U.S. Census, Porter County, Indiana:
Even though William Frame died before the 1840 census, four of the eight children of William Frame and Margaret Jarrett were listed within an enumeration group of fifteen families. Those living in close proximity in Porter Township were the families of daughter Elizabeth2277 and husband Samuel Campbell, son Newton2274 and wife Elizabeth Peake, son William2275 and wife Jane McCarrahan, and daughter Margaret2276 and husband William McCoy. Also within this enumeration group were several McCarrahan families, probably related to Jane McCarrahan, and two Forbes families, likely related to the wife of son Jeremiah. Other children of William Frame and Margaret Jarrett were living in neighboring counties: son John1218 with his wife Eupha Peake and son Jeremiah1224 with his wife Lourena Forbes were living in La Porte County. Daughter Rosie Ann2279 and her husband Rodney Dunham were living in Hancock County, Indiana and would be in Butler County, Ohio in 1850. Margaret Jarrett Frame was likely the female age 50 to 60 living with daughter Rachel2280 and husband Presley Warnock in Porter County. William Frame died in September 1839 and as a recent widow, Margaret may have gone to help daughter Rachel with her three children, including the infant Elizabeth Jane. It is also possible that Margaret was the female age 60 to 70 living with son John Frame and wife Ufa Peake in La Porte county. This last is further away from Margaret's home and her several surrounding children and seems a less likely possibility.

1848 Tombstone:484, Frame Cemetery. Frame Cemetery, Porter Township, Porter County, Indiana. "The cemetery is located on a farm on 675 W., 1/4 mile south of 100 N. in the corner of their farm quite a way west of 675 W. The present owners, in 1993, said those buried are still there but vandals have removed all the stones." Data taken from previous record compiled by Alice Westbay Swanson.
