Biographical Sketch (1989):109, p. 9. "Elizabeth Waggoner was born in Miami County, Ohio, September 17, 1831 and married Daniel Bitler. Elizabeth joined the Old German Baptist Church at the age of 16. Even though she lived some distance from her church she attended every ‘lovefeast’ in the district where she held membership even the last year before her departure. She was a plain and consistent member and ever faithful to the church. She always looked and seemed young in the midst of old age. Her funeral was conducted by a minister of the Christian Church. Interment of Daniel and Elizabeth, with their infant son, is at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Olpe."

1923 Obituary:1836 Funeral services for Mrs. Daniel Bitler, 91 years old, one of the pioneer settlers of Olpe, who died Friday in Eureka, were held yesterday morning at 11 o'clock at the Olpe Methodist Church. Rev. Mr. Johnson, pastor of the Christian Church of Eureka, conducted the services. Interment was at the Olpe Cemetery.
Mrs. Bitler died at the home of her son, Charles Bitler, in Eureka, following a few days illness with pneumonia. Her maiden name was Elizabeth Wagoner. She was born 9-17-1831 in Ohio and was married to Daniel Bitler. The Bitlers came to Kansas, settling in Olpe, in 1886 and Mrs. Bitler's home had been in Olpe since. Mr. Bitler died there about 25 years ago. Mrs. Bitler has more than 200 living descendants, including several great-great-grandchildren.
For 40 years past, a family reunion has been held annually at the Bitler home in Olpe. For 17 years it was held on Mr. Bitler's birthday and after his death was held on Mrs. Bitler's birthday.
Seven children survive Mrs. Bitler. They are Mrs. Peter Hines, Emporia; Frank Bitler, of Olpe; Mrs. Nemuel Brown, Emporia; Charles Bitler, Eureka; Mrs. Hugh Stewart, Council Grove; Mrs. Hannah Chaney, Emporia. Mrs. Bitler was a member of the German Baptist Church.
Emporia persons who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Peter Himes, Mr. and Mrs. Nemuel Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dobson, Mrs. Felle Leonard, Mrs. Laura Madison, Mrs. Hannah Cheddy (?), Mrs. Ica Montgomery, Miss Alice Madison, Mrs. Clifford Soule. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Shuck, of Florence, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Stewart, of Council Grove, also attended the funeral.
