This researcher believes the 1860, 1870, and 1880 census information establishes that Henry was accepted as the son of Presley Warnock, given: 1) that 7 year old Henry is living with Presley and two known daughters in 1860; and 2) Henry is identified as a brother-in-law to Carroll Howell in the 1880 census, which is consistent since Mary Frances Warnock Howell is known to be Henry's sister.
Further research is needed to determine the family relationships of Henry Warnock. Presley Warnock's relationship with second wife Dorotha Davis was presumed to be over by 1850; she was not with the family in the 1850 census. Henry's birth year is estimated to be 1853 based on his age in the 1860 census, taken on 30 June 1860. For Henry to be 7 years of age on that day, he would have been born on June 29 1853 or before. The family remembrance is that Presley Warnock sold land in Porter County in March 1853 and arrived in Oregon City on 25 September 1853. It is therefore most likely that Henry was born in Indiana before the Oregon Trail journey. The 1860 and 1870 censuses both give Indiana as the place of birth. It is possible that Henry was a child born out of wedlock to Margaret Warnock, who later wed Folsom, and that Presley Warnock chose to raise Henry as his son once the family arrived in Oregon. Interestingly, Henry's 1922 Oregon death certificate lists Margaret Folsom as his mother.
