1841 Birth:1537,2243 Birth date of 19 September 1841 taken from Warren Wart Confederate pension application. Birth place given on pension application prepared by Wart himself reads "in Michigan City, Lake County, Indiana." In 1841 as today, Michigan City was in La Porte County rather than Lake County. Given that Warren's parents Warren L. Wart and Malinda Peake married in La Porte County in 1840, this researcher assumes the birth took place in Michigan City, La Porte County, Indiana.
1850 U.S. Census:1228 Warren Wart enumerated in the household of his grandfather Francis Peak in Portage Township, Porter County, Indiana as a male, age 8, born in Indiana. His mother, Malinda Wart, age 25 was apparently a widow at the time of the enumeration. Two of Warren's siblings, Alma Wart, age 2, and Warner Wart, age 2 months were also enumerated within their grandfather's household.
1861-1865 Confederate Service:1537 "The Confederate records show that one Warren Wart, private, (New) Company I, 4th Missouri Cavalry. Confederate States of American, was enlisted November 9, 1861. On the company muster roll for July and August, 1863 (the only roll on which his name is borne), he is reported present. No later record found. The Union records show that one Wart [!] Wart, private, same organization (whose name has not been found on the rolls thereof), was surrendered at New Orleans, Louisiana, May 26, 1865, and was paroled at Shreveport, Louisiana, June 8, 1865."

Information Provided by Wart Researcher:2248"Warren Wart the younger left Indiana (as family legend goes because there was bad blood in the family) and joined the 4th Missouri cavalry (Confederate) As you are probably aware there was a lot of confederate sympathy in Indiana. According to his Confederate pension application (on file at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge) he ended up in Shreveport Louisiana at the end of the war (Shreveport was the last capital of the Confederacy) apparently met Sarah Catherine there and had a number of children. He and Sarah Catherine are buried at the Louisiana Army Ammunitions plant outside of Bossier City, Louisiana. Their children were
