1904 Obituary:1620 Alexander Christian Bitler was born in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, June 21, 1856 and died in Lima, Feb. 26, 1904, at the age of 47 years, 7 months, and 5 days. His parents moved to Ohio when he was but a child and settled on a farm two miles west of here where he was reared. He received a college education and became a successful teacher. He was employed as a clerk in a store and became a partner of Bitler & Marriott, of Harrod, Ohio. His health failing, he moved on his farm left him by his father. Here he turned his attention to fine stock. A few years later he was engaged in the mercantile business at Jackson Center in the firm known as Bitler & Rinehart. His health failing again he sold and moved to North Louisburg as a partner in the livery business with Ed Basil. He then moved back to Jackson Center and again engaged in the mercantile business at the same time doubling the capacity of his business rooms. This he afterwards sold and bought a half interest in an excelsior factory. This firm was known as Bitler & Long. They did a thriving business at Jackson Center and last fall moved their plant to Lima. They have bought thousands of cords of wood this winter from which they expected to make excelsior next summer. But in his busiest hours he was cut off. Mr. Bitler was a good, honest, and industrious businessman of great ability. He was a kind husband, a good father, and a friend to all whom he met. He was married to Miss Clara Frater. To this union were born six children, one of whom preceded her father to the better world. The M. W. of A. of Lima took charge of the funeral services and the remains were interred in the Fairmont Cemetery.
