Biographical Sketch (1915):242, v. 2, p. 907. "Bitler. The Bitler family is one which has long been known in Montour County, Pa., where representatives of the name have been prominent in business, professional, military and public life. Thomas Bitler . . . was an early settler in Schuylkill County, Pa., the family still having claims upon a large tract of coal land in that region. He followed farming, lumbering, and sawmilling all of his life, was successful in his ventures, and died in 1882, at the age of seventy-two years. His wife, Elizabeth, had two children by her first marriage, and to her union with Mr. Bitler were born seven, of whom but one is living, Henry, a resident of Lycoming County, Pennsylvania."
