Notes for Wilson Shannon MOREY

Name:2459 Full name Wilson Shannon Morey taken from 1931 obituary in the Akron News-Reporter.

1838 Birth:255 Birth on 8 October 1838 recorded in the William Morey Family Bible. Birth place of Auglaize County, Ohio assumed since the Morey family was enumerated in that location the 18501636 census enumeration. Wilson was enumerated on 14 September 1850 as 12 years of age, tending to confirm that he was born in October of 1838. Wilson's 1931 obituary, however, indicates he was born on 8 October 1836, making him 94 years of age at the time of death rather than 92. This researcher believes the earlier record in the Family Bible giving the birth date of 8 October 1838 to be the accurate one.

1840 U.S. Census:1489 Wilson enumerated in the household of his father William Morey in Burlington Township, Licking County, Ohio as one of two males under the age of 5; Wilson was age 2. The other male was his brother Andrew Jackson, age 3.

1850 U.S. Census:1636 Wilson enumerated in the household of his father William Morey in Moulton Township, Auglaize County, Ohio as a male, age 12, born in Ohio. Six siblings (Andrew, Clarinda, Martin, Stillman, Ephraim, and Matilda) also resided in the household.

1860 U.S. Census:
2381 Wilson Morey enumerated in the household of his distant cousin Sophia J. Moore and her husband William Billingsley in English River Township, Washington County, Iowa as a male, age 22, laborer, personal property value $100, born in Ohio. The household also consisted of three Billingsley children ages 1 to 5; Philiip Moore, Sophia's father; Elisha Moore, the 23 year old brother of Sophia and the son of Philip; and Wilson Morey. Ten years later, in the 1870 enumeration, Wilson's brother Martin Van Buren Morey would be residing in the same household, located then in Iowa City. Sophia Moore Billingsley, Wilson Morey, and Martin Van Buren Morey are all grandchildren of Adam Patterson, of Licking County, Ohio.
