Notes for Rosannah BECHTOLDT

1828 Birth:171, v. 1, bk. 2, p. 261. Birth date 9 February 1828 inscribed on tombstone in St. Johns Cemetery, Union Township, Auglaize County, Ohio.

1903 Obituary:842, v. 1, p. 31.,1615 Mrs. Rosana (Bechdolt) Bitler. Rosana Bechdolt was born Hamilton, Ohio, Feb. 9th, 1828, and departed this life at her home in St. Johns, Oct. 21, 1903, at the ripe age of 75 years, 8 months, and 12 days. On Feb. 9th, 1866, the 37th anniversary of her birth she was united in marriage to William Bitler, who preceded her to the spirit land. In becoming the wife of Mr. Bitler she also assumed the relationship of mother to Miss Hallie Bitler, now the wife of Mr. J. W. Dunbar, of Springfield, Ohio. The deceased also sustained the maternal relation to three others, two of whom survive her, a son Edwin and a daughter Dora, wife of Mr. George Martin of St. Johns. Four grandchildren, Cleta and Bitler Martin and Ethel and Nellie Parker, also survive her. The deceased was well and favorably known in the community to which she lived, but the chief sphere of her influence was, in the home circle to which in the later months of life she was closely confined because of ill health. She felt and expressed a lively interest in all that pertained to the welfare of her children and grandchildren, and these in turn, faithfully ministered to her and sought to lighten for her life's burdens. They will greatly miss her, but they mourn not as those who have no hope for the deceased had treasures in Heaven. In early life she gave her heart to God and her name to the church, united first with the United Brethren and later with the M. E. Church of which she continued a consistent member until summoned by death from the church militant to the church triumphant. Funeral services were conducted by the pastor Rev. H. S. Worthington who preached a brief sermon from the text, "Thou shalt be missed because they seat will be empty." Interment at St. Johns.
