1947 Obituary:1570 Death Takes George Bay. Heart Attack Fatal to Employee of Local Department Store. George E. Bay, Sr., of Wheeler, died early Monday morning at Methodist Hospital in Gary, following a heart attack.
Bay was born in Wheeler, Nov. 18, 1877, and was united in marriage to Viola Sompson in 1896. Mr. and Mrs. Bay resided in Chicago following their marriage, where Bay was employed in the U.S. government postal department for forty years. The couple moved to Wheeler in 1937 and since 1941 Bay had been working at Lowenstines’ department store in Valparaiso. The deceased was a member of the Masonic Lodge, South Park Chapter 662 while he lived in Chicago and also belonged to the order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, George Jr. of Chicago, William of Crete, Ill.; a daughter, Miss Dolores Faye, of Wheeler; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Phillips, of Los Angeles, Cal., and Mrs. Grace Brown, of Valparaiso. Three grand-children and one great-grand-child also survive.
Funeral services will be held at the Methodist Church in Wheeler at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Up until the time of services, the body will lie in state at the Pflughoeft funeral home in Hobart. Burial will be in the Janes Cemetery in Wheeler.
