Research in progress on the potential relationship of Rebecca Snyder, wife of William Bitler, to Michael Snyder, adjacent to William’s family in the 1820 U.S. census. My working theory is that Michael Snyder was Rebecca Snyder’s father, but this relationship has not yet been proven.

1810 Luzerne County:2028 "From 1772 the territory in which these lands were located was in Northumberland County. In 1810 it was annexed and became a part of Luzerne County, by Act of 1818 this territory was annexed and became a part of Schuylkill County."

1818 Union Township, Schuylkill County Established:2002, p. 355. "The territory now comprising North and East Union townships was, until 1818, a part of Rush township; and at that time was erected into the township of Union, together with a tract set off from Columbia and Luzerne counties, which now comprises the greater portion of North Union. Union township had 487 inhabitants in 1830."

1820 U.S. Census:1986 [Note: Michael Snyder, with two sons and four daughters, including one between the ages of 10 and 16, resided adjacent to the household of Daniel Bitler, where son William Bitler lived. Could this be the family of Rebecca?]

1827 Birth of Daughter:1446, p. 5. Burial in St. Paul's Lutheran and Reformed Church, Ringtown, Union Twp., Schuylkill Co. (Old White): Louisa, wife of Philip KOLB, dau. of Michael SNYDER, d. June 13, 1866, aged 39 yrs. Louisa’s birthdate would be about 1827.

1830 U.S. Census: Ancestry.com 1830 AIS census index has two entries for Maria Snyder, one in Upper Mahantongo Township and one in Union township.

1833 Baptism:2147, p. 11. Joseph Snyder and Elizabeth Bitler sponsored the baptism of Martin Holdhoffer, born 4 December 1832 to Frederick and Elizabeth Holdhoffer, in St. Pauls of the White Church in Ringtown, Union Township, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.

1835 Will:2714 A Maria Schneider, widow of Philip, (Rice and Dellock, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania Vital Records, v. 1, p. 520) of Upper Mahantongo Township, Schuylkill County, wrote her will 28 February 1835, mentioning several daughters and their husbands, but not a Rebecca. It appears this is not the same person as Maria Snyder of Union Township.

1845 Resident:105, p. 517. Samuel Snyder listed among 'Subscribers' Names" as residing in Union Township, Schuylkill County, place of nativity listed as Schuylkill Co. Listed next to Thomas Bitler, brother of Daniel Bitler Sr. Could this be Rebecca Snyder's father or brother?

1850 U.S. Census: Union Township census entry for John Snyder includes a Bitler and Mary Snyder, age 65. "SNYDER, John 25 miller; Lucetta 19 married within year [d/o John BITLER]; Samuel KOONS 26 carpenter; David MILLER 24 carpenter; Stephen DORNBACH 18 carpenter [s/o John of Sugarloaf]; Charles MAISON 30 carpenter; Mary SNYDER 65". Immediately adjacent household is Samuel Snyder, age 29, Daniel Snyder, age 27 and his wife Mary, and Elias Snyder, age 24. James Bitler enumerated nearby.
