1905 Description of Uniopolis:27, p. 764. The business of the village is quite extensive for an inland village. There are two general stores, one of them owned by Carter & Burden, and the other by
Mrs. H. Taylor and
Charles Taylor. These stores keep a full line of goods, and are doing a large and lucrative business. There are two hardware stores, one owned by W. R. Green, and the other by W. A. Carter. One hotel ‘entertains man and beast,’ as the old sign used to read. This hotel is conducted in such a manner as to place it above the average country house of entertainment. Two restaurants and one saloon supply the public demands on those lines. Two blacksmiths and one wagon shop are kept busy the year around. The flouring mill owned by A. P. Rinehart has no superior in the county. The lumber yard and sawmill of S. E. Blank have been doing a large and profitable business for several years. The tile factory of W. T. Orr supplies nearly the entire eastern portion of the county with the products of his industry."

Taylor, 76, retired Uniopolis store keeper, died unexpectedly shortly after noon Monday at his home in that village from heart failure. He had been ill for about a year, but his condition Monday had caused no alarm and he had entertained callers shortly before he passed away while lying on a couch.
Mr. Taylor was one of eastern Auglaize county’s best known and highly esteemed citizens. He had resided in Uniopolis all his life, his parents, Abraham and Lydia Stamm Taylor, being among the pioneer residents of Union township. He was born on February 9, 1858. After growing to manhood he engaged in mercantile enterprises, conducting a general store at Uniopolis during 54 years, excepting about five years which he spent at Rockford and Van Wert, following which period he returned to Uniopolis. He disposed of his store several months ago. His first wife was Thursa Perkins. She died in 1904, leaving her husband and four children to mourn her passing. Three daughters had preceded her. In 1922, he married Isadora McBeth Stamats, and she and the three sons and a daughter of her deceased husband are now left to mourn. The latter are: Mrs. W. G. Reese of Spencer, Ohio, Don M. Taylor of Mishawaka, Indiana, and James R. Taylor and County Recorder Earl W. Taylor of Uniopolis. Two sisters, Mrs. Albert Mayberry of Beaverdam and Mrs. Glenna Spicer of Toledo, and a brother, John Taylor of Van Wert, also survive him. Three brothers and two sisters are deceased. Thirteen grandchildren are numbered among the surviving kinsfolk. Mr. Taylor was well and favorably known. He had served several terms as Union township treasurer.
Funeral services are to be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the late residence in Uniopolis, the Rev. A. E. Oliver, pastor of the M. P. Church, in charge. Burial will be made in Fairmont Cemetery. (handwritten date of 14 May 1934)
