Biographical Sketch (1985):69, p. 87-89. "John Agler's wife, Susannah Baughman, lived almost thirty years after her husband's death. On the 1850 Federal Census she was listed as living in Mifflin township as head of the household. Her age was given as 55 years. The children who were at home with her were Clinton, age 16; and her daughters, Sophia, age 15, and Flora, age 8. In 1860 none of her children were living with her according to the census of that year. She was still in Mifflin Township and her address was given as Park Mills. They very well could be the address of the John Agler homestead. Further research would need to be done to establish that fact. At the time of the 1860 census her real property was valued at $5,00 and her personal property, $450. Her age was given as 66. On the 1870 census, at the age of 76, she was living with a granddaughter, Sophronia Frey. They were living in Mifflin Township. Sophronia was the daughter of George W. Agler.
Susannah Baughman Agler died on 29 January 1871 according to the official death certificate. Her age was given as seventy-seven. The cause of her death was paralysis.
69, As his source, Littrell cites Susannah Agler death record, Death Records, v. 1, no. 2, p. 44, Franklin County, Ohio Probate Court, Columbus, Ohio. Her age on this death certificate agrees with her age calculated from three Federal census reports. On her tombstone her date of death is given as January 29, 1871 the same as given on her death certificate. The stone also has inscribed on it that she was 76 years, 10 months, 2 days. If this age were correct, then she would have been born in 1794. However, the family Bachman Bible states she was born 27 March 1795.
1703 Therefore the information on her death certificate, the tombstone, and the Bachman Bible are not in agreement. Since the ages she gave on each of the three Federal Census records agree with the tombstone and the death certificate, either the translator of the Bible record made an error and wrote "1795" instead of "1795" or Susannah Baughman was unaware of the year of her birth.
Besides the date of her death and her age, there was also inscribed on her tombstone the following verse:
Why lovely friend indulge that tear
Why trembling view my dark abode
Though you with me must moulder here
Yet faith can win the soul of God"
1795 Birthdate:1703 "1795 on the 27th of March is born to us into this world a little daughter, named Susana Bachman."
